Hey, guys! How are you?

So, today I’m here with a post about bad reading habbits. I was nominated to do this one by the lovely Jess from Foundations and Fairytales. Go check her awesome blog. πŸ™‚ This challenge is new for me and it was really fun to do. Now, let’s see…

Bad Habit #1- cover buying.

Yeah, I have bought so many books. πŸ˜€ But I have the tendency to buy some of them because their pretty covers. The result: ending up with huge piles with books without knowing when I’ll have the time to read them and if I’ll ever read them.

Bad Habit #2- easily distracted.

Not every time, tho, but I’m pretty easily distracted. Sometimes I’m distracted from a book because of other books or because a TV show or because something else. But mostl of the times I try not to get distracted especially if the boom is interesting.

Bad Habit #3- reading a book without finishing it.

This one follows up the previous one. πŸ˜€ When I’m reading a book, and it’s either not that interesting or I just have a hard time jumping from the beginning, and I find another book, which is really captivating, I just leave the first book, unfinished… Which bothers me a lot, but what can I do?

Bad Habit #4- I can’t read unless there’s not some music on the background.

Over the years I’ve grown to the habit to listne music while studying or reading. I literally can’t concentrate on what I’m reading without music.

Bad Habit #5- I’m either a very fast reader or a very slow one.

I can read either on a very fast pace or on a very slow. This usually depends on the book (on how captivating it is, on how big it is and other things) and on the time I have. SOmetimes I have only 1 or 2 hours free time so I can’t read a lot from the book.

Nominations:

Kris from Boston Book Reader

Kathy from The Books & Munches

Orang-utan Librarian

And do you have any bad reading habits? If you do, share them in the comments. πŸ™‚

  1. I am guilty of leaving books midway too but now I have set up a target to not to purchase new books before I finish reading the once in reading now list. Goodreads shelves help in being more organized though I also end up making impulsive buys on my Kindle. I have a to read list of 60 books and I can buy them only once I finish reading the unfinished once.
Thanks for sharing your list could relate to most of them.

  3. definitely some of my bad habits too! Especially the buying books just because of their covers! And not finishing some of them because I’m not captivated by them and slowly forget about their existence! Ugh… bad habits indeed! Thanks for sharing yours! x

  4. Oh and i thought i was the only impatient reader .I have a tendency to skip pages to know whats next . I am unable to focus on each sentence and instead tend to form a mental synopsis of it .

    1. Haha, well I think any e-book device is really handy. It’s actually easy to read books and to find them, because the e-book edtitions are not that expensive. I, myself, have an e-book and actually got myself so much into reading because of it. πŸ™‚

  6. great post. I was into cover buying but then i started relying on my local library. I read much faster now ‘coz I have to return in time. But there are so many books i just left midway coz i just grew out of them.. happens a lot to me.

  7. I never skip, and I usually finish books I’ve started, but I do sometimes over-react to the cover, or to cover and title together. My biggest problem is my queue. I constantly promise myself to go through it before buying anything new, but it just grows and grows. Still, a happy problem to have in the grand scheme of things.

  8. Aside from points 1 and 2, I fail to see how points 3 to 5 are bad habits. 3 – 5 are just preferences. In case of point 3, if you don’t finish a book, no big deal. Books are for our edification and enjoyment, and if such a book isn’t speaking our language, or speaking to our soul, then there is no harm in moving on to something else. Rather, I would think finishing it just to finish it would be a waste of time. As for point 4, music, well music is the song of the soul and it can be a soundtrack to a book, so no big deal there. I mean listening to music while reading isn’t what I would do, but if it helps you then that’s great. As for point 5, reading fast or slow, again it depends on the book. I can browse through an exciting science fiction or fantasy book at a rapid pace, but of course I am going to take my time and read more slowly when it comes to philosophical works such as the works of Plato or Emmanuel Kant. So, most of your so-called bad habits aren’t bad habits at all.
